Track teams split opening meet

Freshman Blake Pennington earned a first-place finish (1600 meters) and a second-place finish (800 meters) in her first varsity track meet yesterday.

The Bellwood boys and girls track team had their first meet of the year on Tuesday, hosting Bald Eagle and Bellefonte in a tri-meet at the Roseborough track at Memorial Stadium. Both teams split their meets.

The B-A boys defeated Bald Eagle Area 89-61, but lost to Bellefonte with a score of 95-51. The girls also defeated Bald Eagle Area 95-55, and lost to Bellefonte 90-60.

Senior Kole Dickinson won both the 110 and the 300 hurdles events with times of 16.0 seconds and 42.0 seconds, respectively. Junior Cayden Pellegrine won in javelin with a distance of 146′ 5″and Chance Schreier took second place right behind him with a throw of 142′ 3.5″. Pellegrine also won discus with a distance of 117′ 2″.

Senior Dalton Poorman took home first in pole vault with a vault of 10′ even. He also placed second in both high jump and triple jump with jumps of 5′ 4″ and 39′ 10″ respectively.

Gabe Thompson and Conner Bardell earned some points, as well, with Thompson finishing third in 200 meter dash and Bardell finishing second in the 400 meter dash.

On the girls side, freshman Blake Pennington took home first in the 1600 run with a time of 6:17.8 and placed second in the 800 run with a time of 2:41.2. Fellow freshman Julie Kraft placed third in both the 800 and 1600, with times of  2:46 and 6:20.3.

Sophomore Lily Gerwert was a winner in the high jump with a height of 4-10 while classmate Chloe Stoltzfus was victorious in the 300 hurdles, winning by a second with a time of 53.6.

Junior Briley Campbell placed second in both the 100 and 200 meter dash with times of 13.8 and 28.6 seconds. She also placed third in long jump with a distance of 15′ 4″. Avah Hassler placed third in both the 200 and 400 meter dash with times of 28.9 and 1:07.0.

Both the Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils will be back in action again tomorrow at home against Southern Huntingdon and West Branch.
