Bryon Krug is the perfect role model for someone who wants to help the world.
Krubg, who graduated from Bellwood-Antis in 1994, runs a business that helps makes buildings more energy efficient and sustainable and uses his resources for philanthropy.
Krug found his motivation through his ability to have a real impact on the world.
“I want to (know) that my life made a difference in the world — that people’s lives are better because of my life.”
During his time at Bellwood, Krug was a part of the football team, musicals, and eventually became an Eagle Scout. In his senior yearbook he was voted Most Intelligent in senior superlatives.
Krug excelled academically throughout high school, obtaining a 1380 on his PSAT as a junior. This score gave him the opportunity to compete for the National Merit Scholarship, a scholarship students across America compete for. Krug was named a national semifinalist in September of 1993. He was also given the prestigious Xerox award for innovation and information technology as a junior.
Krug chose to continue his education at Carnegie Mellon University, where he majored in electrical and computer engineering, as well as engineering and public policy.
After receiving a Masters of Business Administration at Harvard University, Krug used his newly minted degree to create an e-publishing firm and a vending machine business and help to launch numerous companies.
It was then that Krug truly set out to change the world for the better.
In 2008, Krug co-founded CEG solutions, a company that specializes in water and energy-saving technologies. CEG helps to make buildings run more energy efficient and sustainable and to reduce carbon. Krug is the current President of CEG and the managing director for the National Association of Energy Service Companies.
Throughout his career, Krug has been a part of many teams that have won prestigious awards. For example, he worked on a team that developed and implemented a project at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory that was selected as the National Energy Project of the Year by the Association of Energy Engineers.
Bryon also spends his time within the Carnegie Mellon community, serving as president for the Andrew Carnegie Society and as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees at CMU.
In recent years, Bryon has made many donations to programs like Carnegie Mellon University and to youth leadership programs because of the positive impact these organizations have had on his life in the past and other people’s lives. Bryon and his wife also support programs that are helping in rural parts of Haiti to bring clean water, access to education, and tools for sustainable agriculture.
Bryon now resides in Virginia where he’s been working on his most important project yet, his two kids, “The most important thing that I’m currently doing is trying (along with my wife) to raise my two sons. They are currently five and seven years old. So they definitely keep me on my toes.”
