The B-A baseball team took down the Juniata Valley Hornets on Monday evening, winning 16-6.

This game was also the youth game, so every team from the Bellwood-Antis Youth Baseball league was in attendance. Members of each team got the opportunity to be announced and run out on the field and shake the varsity players’ hands before the game.

The Blue Devils only needed 5 innings before they wrapped things up with a 10-run rule.

It was a very strong offensive game for the team, they racked up 11 hits and worked 5 walks. On top of the five walks they got three hit by pitches, all coming from Zach Pier as he got hit three straight at bats after hitting a solo homerun in his first at bat.

Alex McCartney went 2-2 with a double, a triple, and a walk. Tanner Swogger also had a double with 3 RBI’s and went 2-3.

Matt Berkowitz started on the mount throwing 2 2/3 innings, striking out five and allowing three earned runs. Zach Gonzalez came it to relieve Berkowitz, Gonzalez closed out the game throwing 2 1/3 innings. He struck out one and allowed one hit, but struggled with placement and walked four, he also allowed 3 earned runs.

On Tuesday the Blue Devils traveled to Bellefonte to face off against the defending 4A PIAA State Champs, the Bellefonte Raiders.

Roles were reversed this game and the Blue Devils lost 10-0 after 5 innings.

The Raiders put up 9 runs in the first inning against freshman Alex McCartney and 1 against Cutris Shedlock in the third inning. Senior, Josh Dorminy took over in third inning with one out, he held the Raiders hitless through the end of the game.

The Blue Devils recorded one hit, coming from Matt Berkowitz.

Braedyn Kormanic pitched all five innings for Bellefonte striking out 8 and letting up one hit.

The Blue Devils are now 3-5 and will host Glendale on Thursday.
