The juniors took the powder puff game over the seniors last Sunday with a score of 20-12. The game took place at Memorial Stadium.
It was a competitive game compared to last year, when the seniors won with a score of 33-0.
As the time started to click down Sunday, the seniors had to forfeit because of injuries.
“Obviously we wanted to win, but seeing the girls get hurt was more important that winning and all of the players and coaches valued their heath over winning. We all hope that all of the injured players are okay and have a quick and easy recovery,” senior coach Cayden Pellegrine said.
The powder puff game is sponsored by the Key Club and all the money raised is going to the Special Olympics.
“It was a really great experience. I enjoyed being able to play and benefit a good cause-the win was an added bonus. It was fun being able to experience it with my friends,” said junior Marissa Cacciotti.
The seniors started the scoring off on the first play with a 70-yard touchdown by Briley Campbell. After the seniors missed the extra point the score was 6-0
But then the juniors answered back with a late touchdown in the first the first half with Cacciotti scoring to make the score 7-6 going into halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, the seniors came out strong with Rowan Kyle scoring a touchdown, making it 12-7.
Then, after a good drive, the juniors capped it off with another touchdown by Cacciotti, her second on the day.
The game was winding down with the juniors in possession of the ball. This time they went to Chloe Stoltzfus, who turned the game-winning scoring run.
Despite the way the game ended, the win was a relief for the juniors.
“It feels great, there was a lot of tension and build up to this game, so coming out on top is always a great feeling,” said Coach Colin Gibbons.
