1. Miracle on Ice In the 1980 Winter Olympics Team USA pulled off one of the biggest upsets against the Soviet Union. This game was truly one for the ages as USA had a super young team, filled with only college talent. The thing that made this so impressive was the skill gap between these two teams. USA Coach Herb Brooks even said it himself: “If we played ’em 10 times, they’d win 9.” The Soviet team, made up of men from the army who played hockey for a living, had won 5 of the last 6 gold medals at the time and were heavily favored to get another one. The final score of this game was 4-3 with USA scoring in the 1st and 3rd periods only. 2. Buster Douglas knicks out Tyson On February 19, 1990, Buster Douglas Knocked out undefeated Mike Tyson in a crazy match for the Heavyweight Champion of the world. Mike Tyson was heavily favored in this, considering he was 37-0 (33 KO’s) and the undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the world. Meanwhile Buster Douglas was a 42-1 Underdog with a record of 29-4-1. Even with all odds stacked against him, Buster knocked out Tyson in the 10th round making him the new Heavyweight Champion.
3. New York Giants end Pats’ streak On February 3, 2008 The New York Giants defeated the heavily favored New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. The Patriots went into the game with a record of 16-0 while the Giants went into the game with a record of 10-6. The Patriots also entered the game as 12-point favorites. One major point in the game was the QB matchup. For the Patriots they had prime Tom Brady and the Giants had prime Eli Manning. In the end the Giants won the game 17-14, with Eli Manning winning Super Bowl MVP.
