The Superbowl halftime show is one of the biggest music events in the world. Every year, millions of people watch as famous artists perform on the biggest stage in sports. Some shows stand out more than others because they are exciting, memorable, and talked about for years.
Today we’ll dive into the top 3 Halftime shows.
1. Prince (2007). In 2007, During Super Bowl XLI’s halftime Prince put together the best halftime show of all time. Despite all odds, and everything bad he preserved and put on a true show. What I mean when I say “everything bad” is during his performance was mainly the rain. While he was performing it was pouring down rain which ultimately made the performance legendary. However, the rain posed some true safety risks including the stage being wet and slippery, water and electricity don’t mix well, lots of stress for the crew, and sound/equipment issues. To top his near perfect performance off he finished with an unforgettable rain-soaked “Purple Rain”.
2. Dr Dre and Friends (2022). To put it as plain and simple as possible, this show was amazing. It felt like from start to finish you were constantly bopping your head or nodding along to the song. The main reason this performance was so special was because of the legendary lineup. Dre Dre brought out Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent. Not only were all these people huge stars on their own, but having them all on the same stage felt historic. This wasn’t just a performance, it was a reunion of hip-hop icons. All in all this show was just really entertaining and very memorable.
3. Micheal Jackson (1993). Honestly this performance could have been ranked higher, but I’m going to put it here because I liked the other ones more. To start things off, this performance single handedly transformed the halftime show to what it is nowadays. Before Michael Jackson most halftime shows were just marching bands, but then he came along and changed it. Another reason it was so great was because of the songs he decided to sing (Jam, Billie Jean, and Black or White). The last reason this performance was so good was because it wasn’t just about the songs, it was about the visuals and all that stuff that made it the show we know and love.
