Bellwood-Antis Key club has a new advisor this year. With a lot of people concerned about the club, because without it we can’t have things like the powderpuff game.
Mr. Schreier sent out an email stating “I am pleased to announce that the 2025-26 Key Club will exist this year. I was approved as the advisor at last night’s board meeting.”
Mr. Schreier thinks the Key Club is too important to let the club dissolve, stating, “The partnership with Northern Blair Kiwanis is something that I want to continue in the future.”
Also, looks like the powder puff game is going nowhere as he claims, “I have been involved in Powder Puff for approximately 8 years, by serving as an official during the game. I helped Mr. Burch, Mr. Elder, and Mrs. McNelis in their role as advisor with the game organization. I think the Juniors and Seniors, players and coaches alike, enjoy the preparation for the game. I wanted to continue to have a leadership role to ensure we provide a safe and organized event.
Mr. Schreier also stated some of his goals as the new Key Club advisor. These include Electing officers, organizing the powder puff game, organize ringing the bell for Salvation Army at Hometown Market, visit Kawanis Meeting with Officers, participate in activity fair, and a spring activity or service day.
He states that the Powder Puff game should go on in the spring, the ringing bell at Hometown Market in December, and the activity fair also in December.
As the new advisor, and having the powder puff game, his new goal is for students to have fun and be respectful. He states, “I want students to have fun with this game. However, I want it to be an inclusive event for all Juniors and Seniors who want to participate. I want the game to be safe and respectful. The rivalry between Juniors and Seniors is present, but I don’t want the Coaches to overshadow the performance of the female participants. They are the show, not the coaches.”
When asked about Powder Puff continuing, he states, “I am hopeful that it continues. There are risks with any activities, last year we had an ACL injury and head injury. We need to create a safer environment for the game, so I plan to adapt Powder Puff to follow NFHS/PIAA Girls Flag Football Guidelines. This will remove some of the physical aspects of the game as flag football rules limit contact.
So, with Mr. Schreier being the new Key Club advisor, expect nothing to change. The club will still remain and so will Powder Puff. With his arrival, you should even expect improvement. He’s bringing a new aspect of leadership and navigation. His plans are pretty big and definitely bring a challenge to the club.
