Softball team places second at weekend tournament
Blue Devils fall to West Branch for third time

The Blue Devil softball team played in the Wetzler Memorial Tournament on Saturday, placing second among the four teams. They lost to West Branch for the third time this season in the final 7-3.
Jacqueline Finn went 4-for-4 with a triple and two RBI’s against Altoona in a first-round 8-4 victory. She added three more hits, including another triple in their game against West Branch to finish with seven hits.
Taylor Shildt had multiple hits along with Laycee Clark and Saige McElwain.
The Blue Devils had 6 RBI’s against the Lady Lions: two from Finn and Convery and one each from Shildt and Showalter. Shildt was the winning pitcher and she struck out 2..
The Blue Devils started out strong in the beginning. In the first inning the Blue Devils scored two runs. They added another run in the second inning making the score 3-0.
In the fourth inning the Blue Devils added three more runs and the Lions scored two runs. The score was 6-2. The Blue Devils added their final two runs in the fifth inning.
In the second round the Blue Devils went up against West Branch but couldn’t get over the hump against the Lady Warriors.
“I think we did approach our first game against Altoona very well, as well as the West Branch game, but I think there were things that we could’ve focused on and done better to win that game,” said Kelcie Dennis.
The Blue Devils committed four errors in the loss.
Shildt and Finn hit triples.
The Blue Devils record is now 9-4.
