The Bellwood-Antis Blue Devil softball team stayed strong and came out on top against the Glendale Vikings yesterday with a 10-0 victory.

Senior Blue Devil Anna Wolfe recorded her 100th career hit.  She is the third Blue Devil softball player in history to get 100 hits, and all of them have come in the last two seasons. Teammate Jacqueline Finn reached 100 in March.

“It feels good to know that hard work pays off,” said Anna. “Looking back at freshman year I wasn’t even thinking about hits. I was just worried about hitting the ball in play.

“Sophomore year I made a goal to get 100 hits, and it feels really good to reach that goal.”

Coach Jim Payne said Anna’s work ethic is the key to her success.

“Four years ago Anna Wolfe decided to be a top hitter on our team and has dedicated herself to that goal,” said Coach Payne.  “Anna is a, first to get there last to leave, type of player.  She leads by example and never has a bad at bat! This achievement was earned not given!”

Payne is also proud of the direction of the program thanks to players like Anna.

“Having three players achieve this goal in our program is a testament to the program!” he said. “Our philosophy is simple and the players have bought into our system!  The kids want to succeed and they take instruction well and trust our coaching!” said Blue Devil softball coach Jim Payne.”

Caroline Showalter had three hits, one of them being a grand slam.

The Blue Devils scored 2 runs in the first inning and added one more in the second.  They got 5 runs in the fourth inning and 2 in the fifth inning.  The game was cut short.

The Blue Devils had 8 multiple hits: three from Showalter, three from Shildt, and 2 from Wolfe. Edyn Convery had 3 RBIs.

Taylor Shildt was the winning pitcher improving to 7-2.

The softball team’s record is now 11-5.
