Last week, the Blue Devils got the long awaited tally in the win column by defeating the West Branch Warriors on Homecoming night with a score of 35-14.

A big change in the starting lineup may have been the deciding factor of this game. For the first two weeks of the season Jake Burch had started at Quarterback, but last week the coaching staff deiced move Junior Jarrett Taneyhill to quarterback, and to move the athletic runner Burch to the starting tailback position. This move turned out to pay great dividends for Bellwood-Antis.

B-A ran for a staggering 282 yards, with 161 yards coming from the legs of Jake Burch, who also scored all five touchdowns for B-A. Taneyhill finished his debut as starting quarterback going for 6-14 with 73 passing yards.

This week B-A travels to Alexandria to take on the Green Hornets of Juniata Valley. JV comes into the contest with a record of 1-2. Also like Bellwood-Antis, JV is coming off its first win of the season as they took down Claysburg-Kimmel last Friday with a score of 27-6.

Previous issues that plagued B-A in its first two losses of the season seemed to disappear last week against West Branch. B-A looked sharp in every aspect of the game.

Bellwood-Antis had no turnovers for the first time in the early season. Also in earlier weeks in what would have been a broken arm tackle, B-A defenders swarmed West Branch ball carriers giving them very few yards after contact.

However Bellwood-Antis is not satisfied with last week’s solid victory. Taneyhill recalls this week of practice “Tuesday and Wednesday were very good workdays. Thursday which is more of a fine tuning day for the upcoming game was nearly perfect were there was almost no mistakes made.”

The Blue Devils shouldn’t have any problem defeating Juniata Valley in tonight’s contest. According to Taneyhill the most important factors into getting this week’s victory for B-A consist of “coming out strong early, once they get a lead don’t let up, and show a lot of energy.”
