Soccer team loses in playoffs

The Tyrone/Belwood-Antis soccer team couldn’t hold a two-goal lead against Bellefonte.

The Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis girls’ soccer lost a 3-2 heart-breaker in overtime Saturday against Bellefonte in the first round of the District 6 Class AA tournament.

The No. 3 seeded Lady Eagles held a two-goal lead in the first half but couldn’t hang on.

Bellwood-Antis Senior Marissa Panasiti scored 30 seconds into the game to put the Golden Eagles’ up early. B-A Freshman Riley D’Angelo added another goal to put the team up 2-0.

Sadly it was a tale of two halves, as Bellefonte, the 6 seed, scored 2 goals to tie the game up and send the game to overtime.

Neither team scored in the first period of overtime, but in the 2nd overtime period Bellefonte scored a goal to win the game and move on the second  round of playoffs.

Tyrone/Bellwood-Antis finished its season with a record of 13-6.

Also Saturday the Bellwood boys’ and girls’ Cross Country teams competed in the District 6 Championships. This was their last meet of the year.

“We did better than expected, and I’m quite satisfied,” said senior Nate Claar about the season as a whole.
