At the basketball season opener vs. Tyrone this Friday, fans earn a free pizza by bringing in a donation to benefit Blair Hope for Families. If you do this, you will receive a ticket for a free half-court shot at halftime.  Then, if you can make the shot, you will be awarded with a free pizza from Martin’s General Store.

In 2013, Blair Hope for Families was founded by Tipton resident Doug Sloey.  The organizations goal is to provide a more typical childhood and family experience for children in the foster care system in Blair County.  Blair Hope seeks to provide the items and experiences to children in foster care that are not provided for through the financial stipend system offered to host families.  Blair Hope does this through the donations of individuals in our area.

Junior Jason Shade is very excited for the opportunity to win a free pizza, saying, “I’m going to try to make it as entertaining as possible. I made probably four last year, and I think my experience helps me a little bit.”

Each of the following items will earn you 1 half-court shot: toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shower scrubby, deodorant, bath towel, wash cloths, or children’s book.

You can earn 2 half-court shots if you bring in these items:  pajama set, pillow, travel pillow, or blanket

It is also possible to bring in multiple items to get as many tickets as you can.  For example, 3 toothbrushes will earn you 3 half-court shots.

President of the Boys Booster Club, Miss Brenda McGee explained why they booster club chose to work with this program, “The Boys Basketball booster club chose this organization because it is a local organization and the donations stay within our communities.  We have parents on our team who play an important part in this program,” she then added “Our Vice President Ronie Taneyhill has been very instrumental in planning events for collection of donations.”

With that being said, be sure to bring in donations this Friday to help children in our area and earn yourself a free pizza from Martin’s General Store.
