The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is sponsoring another cereal box drive during January.

Elementary, Middle, and High School students are all asked to bring in boxes and place them in designated containers in their homerooms. The cereal is donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry in Altoona, which serves all of Blair County.

“A lot of the people that the cereal drive helps out are single parents who work, but still have some money issues, people who have lost their jobs, and even some recent college graduates who cannot find work,” said FCA advisor Mr. Nick Lovrich.  “These are the majority of the people who visit the Food Pantry.”

The people at the Pantry were so excited with what we did last year and bragged about how great a place Bellwood-Antis is.

Last year, the Bellwood-Antis School District as a whole raised a total of 1,517 boxes. That exceeded what had been biggest collection before by over 200!

“The people at the Pantry were so excited with what we did last year and bragged about how great a place Bellwood-Antis is and how many great kids we have here,” said Mr. Lovrich.  “We want to try and top what we did last year which was 1517 boxes.  Hopefully we all join together to make that happen.”

“We at Bellwood-Antis know we’re the best,” senior Jake Burch, the president of FCA, told the student body last week on morning announcements. “Now is the time for us to show it and help these families.”

This drive benefits families who cannot afford to buy food often. This cereal drive helps provide less fortunate people with the most important meal of the day.
