Monday night the Lady Blue Devils traveled to Alexandria to take on the Hornets of Juniata Valley, and the team avenged its 60-57 loss to JV earlier in the season. With the decisive 63-38 victory,  B-A put itself in the driver’s seat for the ICC North crown

Coach Jim Swaney recorded his 400th career win as a head coach.

Swaney began his coaching career in Tyrone where he coached from 1988-2006. He took over as B-A’s coach in 2010. Swaney has won two district titles to add to his impressive coaching résumé, along with several deep state playoff runs.

Bellwood-Antis improved to 10-4 overall and 7-1 ICC North while Juniata fell to 7-5 and 5-2 in the conference.

We have been working hard to become a good defensive team and I believe the kids are starting to see good things for all the hard work.

Coach Swaney was pleased with his team’s defensive effort, but more importantly gaining control of the conference with the win.

“The game last night was very important to us. We have been working hard to become a good defensive team and I believe the kids are starting to see good things for all the hard work,” Coach Swaney said. “The game not only allowed us to beat a team that had beaten us, but put us back in control of the ICC North.”

B-A controlled the game from the opening tip and dominated the first quarter.

The Blue Devils used a 16-0 run in the quarter to break away from Juniata Valley and closed out the quarter leading 18-4.

B-A took the momentum it gained in the first quarter and carried it over and dominated the second quarter as well outscoring the Hornets 18-11.

Bellwood-Antis went into halftime leading 36-15 and were led offensively by Karson Swogger and Riley D’Angelo who scored 16 and 9 points respectively.

Swogger carried the team in the second half by scoring 21 more points while B-A outscored Juniata valley in the second half 27-23.

Juniata Valley’s Sydney Reed, who scored 26 points in the team’s first meeting, was held three points this time around, in large part to D’Angelo’s defensive effort.
