Yesterday, the boys’ and girls’ track team split their match-up against the Hollidaysburg and Bishop Guilfoyle.

The B-A boys team beat Bishop Guilfoyle 119-31 but tied 75-75 with Hollidaysburg.  Last year, the Hollidaysburg meet would have been just that a tie.  But, unfortunately this year due to rule changes, there can’t be ties so the game went to tie-breakers.

The first tie-breaker was the number of first place finishes for each team, which was also tied at 9-9.  This sent the meet into the second tie-breaker, which was the number of second place finishes for each team. Hollidaysburg had eight and Bellwood had seven.

The Blue Devils grabbed most of their points in the jumping categories as well as the relays.

B-A swept all the relay events with wins in the 400 relay (Burr, Davis, Worthing, Burch), 1600 relay (D’Angelo, Worthing, Burch, Davis), and the 3200 relay (Taylor, McClellan, Vankirk, D’Angelo).

Bellwood also swept the long jump and the triple jump, with Jake Burch grabbing first in both.  Matt Glunt and Clay Engle got second and third, respectively, for B-A in long jump and Clay Engle and Tanner Worthing took second and third in the triple jump.

The pole vault event was a big sweep for the Blue Devils, taking all three finishes.  Justin Gunsallus took first with a jump of 10-6, Ryen Beam took the second spot, and Lucas Tuggy rounded it up, taking third to steal all the points in the event.

The Lady Devils earned a 101-49 victory over Bishop Guilfoyle’s Lady Marauders but took a tough loss to Hollidaysburg’s Lady Tigers.

B-A got four first place finishes from Marissa Panasiti in the open 400 meter run, a big finish in the pole vault with Alexis Gerwert taking the top spot, Regan Plowman with a great performance in the 800m run, and Kamryn Mercer winning the high jump.

The next event for B-A’s track teams will be the Altoona Invitational this Saturday.
