The Bellwood-Antis baseball team traveled to Juniata Valley last night where they lost 6-5 in nine innings.

B-A had to battle right from the beginning of the game after they were down 2-0 heading into the third. In the third inning B-A finally got something going scoring one run and then going on to score four in the fifth.

B-A maintained its 5-2 lead heading into the sixth, but was unable to hold off the Hornets in the remainder of the game. Juniata Valley scored three runs in the final two innings to send the game into extra innings before scoring their last run off of a double by Jake Houck in the ninth inning to end the game.

“Yesterday was a close game, but it’s good that we have that experience heading into the rest of the season,” said junior first baseman Joe Padula.

Nevin Wood pitched the first six innings to earn the no decision, and Blake Johnston came in during the seventh inning to finish out the game for Bellwood. He was tagged with the loss.

Padula, who had three hits, Trent Walker, and Jordan McCracken all scored once for the Blue Devils and Noah Burns scored twice.

The Blue Devils, who are now 1-1, will play Saturday at noon when they travel to Tyrone.
