The Bellwood-Antis softball team is now 11-0 after winning both games of their double header against Glendale yesterday.

The Blue Devils won the first game, which was the continuation of a game from April 7, 4-1. B-A then shut out the Vikings 3-0 in their second game.

The win improved B-A’s ICC record to 10-0, while handing Glendale its first two ICC losses. The Blue Devils now have the inside track to the conference title.

“All of these good things that are happening are all rungs on a ladder,” said Coach Jim Payne. “The goal is to take one rung at a time.”

Going into the suspended game B-A was already up 1-0. Caroline Showalter and Taylor Shildt each had two hits during the first game.  Shildt, who pitched the first game, drove in three runs while giving up only four hits.  Shildt also had 12 strikeouts in the first game.

In the second game Shildt had another two hits while Saige McElwain and Eydn Convery each had an RBI. B-A scored their first two runs in the first inning and then sealed the win with their final run in the fourth inning.  Bellwood ended the game with seven hits and only one error.

Maddie Miller, who was in the pitching circle for the Blue Devils, only gave up one hit in the first five innings before Shildt came in to finish the game.

Coach Payne gave credit to the Lady Vikings and Coach Phil Barroner.

“Beating Glendale today is not the same as beating them two years ago,” said Coach Payne. “They are coached by a former Bellwood coach, so we know he is knowledgeable and motivated, and he has done an amazing job building his program.”
