The Bellwood-Antis softball team suffered its first loss of the season yesterday to a very good mountain league opponent, 2-1. Philipsburg-Osceola came into Bellwood the game boasting a record of 11-2 and left 12-2.

The lone run for Bellwood was scored on a solo shot by Caroline Showalter in the fifth that tied the game 1-1.

“We got people on but we couldn’t get the big hits to bring them home,” said third baseman Edyn Convery.

On two separate occasions with runners in scoring position, Bellwood made fatal blunders on the base path leading to outs. On one, Showalter was picked off after taking a big lead off third base, and on another Krystina Taylor got caught between first and second.

Taylor Shildt pitched a complete game, striking out 6 and only allowing 5 hits.

With its first loss, Bellwood is now 13-1.

It is still in complete control of the ICC and has high hopes for the district playoffs. The Lady Devils next game is today against Williamsburg.
