Gerwert pole vaulting.

As a freshman last year Alexis Gerwert tied record for pole vault at districts vaulting 10’6 in 2015 while taking to gold medal.

Gerwert tied the record at 10’6 with 2002 pole vaulter Andrea Genesi.

Tonight at the District 6 AA championship Gerwert hopes to break the record again and repeat as the champion.

This track season Gerwert’s highest jump has been 10’.

Recently Gerwert received a longer pole from the Altoona track and field team to help her reach her full potential.

The boys and girls qualifiers will be competing today at Mansion to try to qualify for states.

When did you get involved with track and field?

Gerwert: Last track season.

What events do you participate in track?

Gerwert: Pole vault.

Which event is your favorite?

Gerwert: Pole vault, it’s the only event I focus.

What is your best height for the events above?

Gerwert: 10’6 at districts last year. This year I’ve jumped 10’.

How did the West Central Coaches Meet go for you?

Gerwert: Pole vault was canceled due to the rain so not very well.

Do you plan to participate in track and field throughout your high school career? college career?

Gerwert: Yes. Possibly in college depending on how I do in my next few years of high school.

What are your expectations for Districts?

Gerwert: I’m hoping to do as well as last year, if not better, and qualify for states.

How much does it mean to you to try to get the school record?

Gerwert: It’s kind of overwhelming because since I tied the record last year everyone expects me to b reak it this year.
