She hasn’t been swimming long, but she is definitely making a splash in the pool. Olivia Thomas is our Athlete of the Week!

This junior has been swimming with the Tyrone Golden Eagles since ninth grade and has loved the intensity and excitement involved with swim practice and meets.

“I started swimming because my sister did it, and I’ve always loved to swim,” said Thomas.

Since she started she has progressed positively in times as well as in making friends, specializing in the backstroke.

“Olivia has progressed a great amount since ninth grade. She started as a newbie and is now one of the teammates with the most experience and provides us with a lot of crucial points when it comes down to the last few events. She also keeps everyone laughing, even during the stressful times,” said fellow swimmer, Gwen Dougherty.

Olivia and Gwen are key leaders to the team because there are very few seniors on the team this year.

As it stands, the girls season stands at 5-2 and boys hold a 4-3 record.

Olivia says she feels good about her personal achievements but she really wants to become two seconds faster on her times so that she can make it to Districts.
