It’s the 15th annual poetry slam at Bellwood-Antis!  The B-A poetry slam will take place on May 11.

The deadline to submit your poems is arriving soon.  All poems that wish to be read in this poetry slam must be submitted to Mr. Naylor by May 8.

“This has become a true Bellwood tradition. Kids look forward to it each year,” said English Department Chairperson Mr. Kerry Naylor, who organizes the event.

Categories in which you can submit your poem include: Individual slam, Duo slam, Humorous poems, and Miscellaneous poems.

Poetry slam poems are spoken word poems meant to be interesting and funny, or sometimes dramatic and sad. They appeal to emotions through the performance of the piece.

The slam was started by Mrs. Diane Hubona nearly 15 years ago.  To participate, students are to create a poem and read it in front of their peers.

Mr. Naylor took over this event in 2010.

Kaleah Smith, one of last year’s winners, is coming to defend her title.

” I’m always impressed by the number of entries we receive. Each year we will receive almost 40 entrants from students who choose to read original poetry in front of their classmates,”  Mr. Naylor said.
