As most people know, I attended both of Panic! At the Disco and Metallica’s live performances whenever they both played in Pittsburgh and State College. I promised most of my friends that I would do a review on both of the shows and compare the shows together and pick who was better. So let’s just jump right into. I have specific categories for this one.

Topic 1: Tour mates:

Panic! At the Disco: ARIZONA and Haylee Kiyoko

Metallica: Jim Breuer

Panic! At the Disco: Panic! At the Disco went on tour with two acts, one that nobody knew, and one that people were GETTING to know. Haylee Kiyoko was the first act to open up at PPG Paints Arena for Panic! At the Disco’s “Pray for the Wicked” tour, and she did indeed kill it. I don’t have any pros or cons for her, mostly because I’m not a fan of her, but she definitely set the crowd off in the greatest way possible. Fans were all pumped for Panic! At the Disco to come out next, but little did they know that Brendon Urie wasn’t next up in line to play, it was ARIZONA. ARIZONA didn’t get ANY cheering what so ever. I’m not kidding you. It was practically dead silent after they ended a song. I honestly felt bad for them.

Metallica: Obviously Metallica didn’t actually have an opening musical act before them. Nobody could ever open for Metallica, let’s be honest. But Metallica had a comedian for their opening act. The reason everyone loved the fact that comedian, Jim Breuer, was joining Metallica for Metallica’s tour was because back in 2003, Breuer got on stage of a Grammy’s performance and did some impressions of lead singer of Metallica, James Hetfield, and drummer, Lars Ulrich. Everybody loved it, simply because it was 100% accurate to how they really sounded, especially since Breuer did Hetfield’s signature “Oooo’s” and “Yeah!” Like I said, Breuer isn’t actually a musical act, but he definitely takes the cake on this one.

Topic 2: Pyrotechnics

Panic! At the Disco: Panic! At the Disco didn’t generally have any pyrotechnics throughout their show. They had a screen in the background that had the music video of the song they were performing. They actually did have fire in one of their songs, “Crazy=Genius,” but do I know why? No. There’s literally no mention of fire in the entire song.
Metallica: Um, yeah. Metallica literally has the record for having the greatest pyrotechnics in the world. No question.

Topic 3: Set list
Panic! Recap: I don’ know about you, but the choice is obvious although both set list are missing a few songs. Panic! At the Disco could’ve played Nearly Witches, That Green Gentlemen, Trade Mistakes, and One of the Drunks. Metallica missed The Four Horsemen, Ride the Lightning, Spit out the Bone, and the Unforgiven.

Topic 4: Intro (Arrival)

Panic! At the Disco: Brendon Urie literally flew the stage and started singing “Silver Lining.” Coolest thing I’ve ever seen to be honest, that intro couldn’t have been any better.

Metallica: Metallica entered on their classic Hardwired intro where they let the “Hardwired” back track intro play and they slowly entered the stage and played along with the track.

Topic 5: Fan Appreciation

Panic! At the Disco: Although Panic! At the Disco had a load of girls screaming at the top of their lungs, whenever Brendon asked the fans to clap hands, as any artist typically does, hardly anyone participated.

Metallica: Metallica had the entire stadium screaming at the top of their lungs to singing along with every song they played. Even I was singing along and I never do that unless I’m really into the music.

In conclusion, I just want to point out that both of these bands were really good live. There is just clearly a superior. I didn’t compare guitarists or anything or vocals simply because Metallica would’ve destroyed Panic! At the Disco with those categories. We’re really going to put Kenneth Harris against Kirk Hammett? Come on now. Kirk is literally one of the greatest of our time. Sorry to all the Panic! At the Disco fans I probably disappointed, but you know it’s Sad But True, Metallica is the alpha and the omega of live performances.
