The Mishler Theatre has been hosting the Issacs for 20 years, celebrating area high school musicals with performances and awards.
This year, The Bellwood-Antis production of Shrek the Musical was nominated in every category it was eligible for, and last weekend the play received two first-place awards.
In the category of Best supporting Actor in a Male Role, Derek Stivers took home the award for his performance as Lord Farquaad.
The number “Morning Person” earned runner up for Best Dance, with Gigi Juart taking home that award.
The Issacs is a prestigious event where attendees array themselves in dresses or suits, take pictures, and perform numbers from their show for the crowd to watch. There are also scholarships awarded to select students.
“It was such an honor to be recognized for my hard work, and I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of Molly and Mr. Logue,” Stivers said.
The play was directed by Molly Burns, while B-A choral director Mr. David Logue was the musical director. It played in front of three packed houses at the end of March.
B-A’s performance was up against big schools that also had very good productions.
