Softball comes up short in Backyard Brawl
After starting out their season 0-2, the softball team looked to shift their focus to their cross-town rival Tyrone Golden Eagles in Bellwood.
The Lady Blue Devils did not get off to the start they wanted, falling behind 6-0 at the end of the first inning. The second inning saw Bellwood slow down the Tyrone offense, but still giving up a run pushing Tyrone’s lead to 7-0.
The rest of the game was all Tyrone. Bellwood was outscored 15-1 in the final two innings and took a crushing loss to the Golden Eagles with a final score of 22-1
Bellwood could only get 1 hit, and was only able to push across 1 run. Sophomore Laney Quick reached on a bunt single in the fourth inning and scored on a bases-loaded walk.
With the struggling offense, the Lady Blue Devil’s defense wasn’t able to stand up. The softball team gave up 14 hits, while also walking 17 batters.
The softball team will look to turn it around this week with games against Williamsburg Moshannon Valley.
