The Bellwood-Antis track and field teams had several athletes competing on Friday in the Altoona Mountain Lion Class track meet at Mansion Park.
B-A had one champion on both the boys and girls side of the competition as Jayce Quick and Ella Cherry continued to stand out among area competitors.
The Blue Devils placed fourth in the meet, amassing 41 points.
There were many competitors from many different schools, with over 30 teams competing.
The Lady Blue Devils had plenty of individual success with their events. Cherry, a freshman, continued to shine in her rookie season, winning the 200m dash and triple jump. She ran a time of 26.92 in the 200m, and jumped a distance of 36-10 in triple jump. Cherry also placed in two more events, getting fourth place in the 100m dash with her time of 13.11, and placing third in long jump after jumping 15-10.50. Other B-A girls that placed in their events were:
- Chloe Stoltzfus, 7th in the 100 hurdles and 4th in the 300 hurdles
- Avah Hassler, runner-up in the 400 meters and 8th in the high jump
- Blake Pennington, 5th in the 1600 meters
- Emma Taneyhill, 3rd in the discus
- Lilly Gerwert, 5th in the high jump
- Avey Powers, 6th in the long jump
- Ava Worthing, 3rd in the pole vault
- Olivia Rishel, 4th in the pole vault
The Lady Devils also performed well in the relays, placing 5th in the 4X100, 4th in the 4×400, and 3rd in the 4×800.
For the B-A boys, Quick, a junior, won the discus event with his throw of 147-3. Quick also placed fourth in shot put, throwing 45-9.
Other placements for the boys were:
- Holden Schreier, 3rd in the 400 meters
- Cayden Pellegrine, 5th in the javelin and 6th in the shot put
- Cameron Nelson, 4th in the 110 meter hurdles
The B-A boys 4x400m team finished in 4th place with a time of 3:36.12. The 4x800m team also found a placement, finishing in sixth place with a time of 9:05.42.
The tough competition continues this week when the track teams travel to Saint Francis University for the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference championship meet.
