October 10th: World Mental Health Day

Today+is+World+Mental+Health+Day.
Today is World Mental Health Day.

Tuesday is World Mental Health Day, not to be confused with mental health day.

Mental health day is a day for yourself, while world mental health day is to celebrate annual awareness programs to bring attention to mental illness and its major effects on peoples lives worldwide.

in 1994 world mental health day was celebrated with a theme for the first time at the suggestion of then Secretary General Eugene Brody. The theme was “Improving the quality of mental health services throughout the world”.

Every year a new theme is picked. Some themes over the years include: Women and Mental Health in 1996, Children and Mental Health in 1997, The Effects of Trauma and Violence on Children & Adolescents in 2002, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders of Children & Adolescents in 2003, Depression: A Global Crisis in 2012, Mental Health and Older Adults in 2013, and Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention in 2019.

Is there one for 2023 you may be asking. Yes! The theme for 2023 is  Mental Health is a Universal human right.
