The Bellwood-Antis Aevidum club hosted its second annual volleyball tournament on Monday, April 8.

The Setsey Ladies, battling from the losers bracket, came out on top, defeating the Spike Tysons two straight times in the championship finals.

The tournament was the start of a fun day for B-A students, who had a half day and were dismissed at 12:15 due to the solar eclipse.

There was a total of 17 teams who entered the double-elimination style tournament. The games were each 5 minutes, being played two at a time. The semi-final game in the losers bracket and the championship series games were extended to 10-minute games and played on the main volleyball court.

The cost to enter a team in the tournament was $10. All proceeds that were raised from the tournament went to The Door.

The championship series between The Setsy Ladies and Spike Tysons was true double elimination, The Setsy Ladies needed to win twice to win it all coming out of the losers bracket, while the Spike Tysons just needed one win as they were undefeated.

The Setsy Ladies, a team composed of Addy Turek, Ava Patton, Avah Hassler, Scotlyn Hassler, Chance Schreier, Connor Cobaugh, and coach Holden Schreier, were able to win the championship series 2-0.

Originally, the Spike Tysons had been the ones to send the Setsy Ladies down to the loser bracket when playing on the smaller court. When it came to the championship series, the Spike Tysons struggled on the main court as the Setsy Ladies had 3 key team members that are standouts for the varsity girls volleyball team.

Chance Scheier was a solid player upfront and Scotlyn Hassler was essential in the team’s passing. Ava Hassler controlled the serves and Addy Turek was the leaderin kills with her powerful spikes. Coach Holden Schreier was crucial for team morale after originally losing to the Spike Tysons.
