Mrs. Martin and Mr. Martin had a new family member come in their life in February, and the B-A teaching couple has been adjusting, in a good way, ever since.
Their new baby Niels was born on February 17 weighing 8 pounds, 13 ounces.
Mrs. Martin returned to teaching this school year, but coming back and leaving her newborn behind wasn’t easy.
“I missed Niels so much!” Mrs. Martin said. “But I was able often throughout the day to see him.” Mr. and Mrs. Martin’s families helped in babysitting the new addition, so Mrs. Martin was able to see her son on lunch breaks.
Mrs. Martin is a second grade teacher at Myers Elementary and Mr. Martin is a high school science teacher.
They both said that they miss Niels, but he’s in good care with his grandmothers and his aunt.
“Fortunately, I came back with only a few weeks left of the school year (last year), so I knew it was only temporary,” said Mr. Martin, who taught in the middle school before taking the open earth and space science position in the senior high school.
Mrs. Martin says she loved the break and being able to stay at home with Niels.
“It was nice to not have to get ready for work early in the morning after not sleeping not much the night before,” she said.
Mr. Martin says that he liked being able to help his wife.
The couple has already gotten Niels around to some B-A events, including high school and junior high football games, ensuring he’s a future Blue Devil in the making.
