The Bellwood-Antis unified bocce team fought hard in a tough loss in the bocce backyard brawl in the high school gymnasium on Wednesday.
The Blue Devils faced Tyrone in front of a packed house during eighth period, with the entire high school student body present.
Tyrone won 2 games to 0. The games scores were 6-0, and 3-1. After the match, the Eagles were awarded the first ever Backyard Brawl Bocce Trophy.
Bocce is a PIAA sport offered through the special Olympics of Pennsylvania that brings together co-ed teams made up of students with intellectual disabilities and those who do not.
The best thing about it is it helps people with intelligential disabilities be able to participate in a sport.
B-A’s 2025 team consists of eight people: Lily hardman, Eric Johnson, Noah Larson, Cooper Lovrich, Parker Lucas, Jacob Miller, Logan Ridgeway, and Michael Zimmerman.
On team member, Noah Larson, said he enjoys playing and watching his teammates compete.
“I enjoy the people that clap for me,” he said. He enjoys the home games and thinks his team and coaches are fantastic.
That coaching staff includes Mrs. Shannon Elder and Mrs. April Cramer. Both coaches enjoyed having such a big crowed to support everyone on the team.
Also assisting in Wednesday’s meet were teachers Mr. Brandon Stewart and Mr. Justin Barr, who served as game officials, and Mr. Nick Lovrich, who did the announcing.
