In 2015, people use their phones for just about everything, including the news.

There are millions of ways to get the news. Whether it’s a newspaper or even the BluePrint, most people read the news.

However, do people use social media like Facebook and Twitter as credible news sources? In some cases yes. Sophomore Alexis Orona said that it depends on the social media account. If you follow CNN then it does count but if you just read a tweet from “Becky’s Sister’s Boyfriend” then probably not.

In some ways social media has been a blessing but in more ways a curse. Most people believe everything they hear on the internet then end up starting controversy and more problems that can ultimately lead to people committing suicide. So should we rely on social media to obtain our news?

According to Martha Irvin of the Associated Press, “A survey of Americans 18 to 34 found that two-thirds of the respondents said they consume news online, often on social networking site.”

We are the generation that could stop smoking and yet we choose to ignore common sense. How are we supposed to progress as a society if we don’t become more educated on what is ACTUALLY going on in the world around us?

There are people halfway across the world dying for what they believe in and all teenagers and young adults can care about in the United States is whether or not they think  Channing Tatum is cuter than Zac Efron and vice versa.

Teacher Mr. Matthew McNaul relies on news sources like CNN, the New York Times, Fox News, CBS, and the Wall Street Journal and Sophomore Ethan McGee uses news sources like CNN, the BA BluePrint, Sports Center, and the Newspaper (Sports Section).

However many students like Senior Jake Shade even rely on Television shows like Tosh.0, which is definitely NOT a reliable news source unlike CNN and Fox News.

Although other social media sources like Snapchat have tried to incorporate news into their applications. The discover button on their app take you to a screen where you can read news from Yahoo, CNN, Vice News, Daily Mail, People, Cosmopolitan, ESPN, and National Geographic.
