Nick Lovrich does a lot for the students at Bellwood-Antis, but few realize that he was once a student there, too.
Lovrich participated in basketball, track and football, and was involved in NHS and peer counseling during his time as a student at Bellwood-Antis. He graduated in 1991 and decided to further his education at the University of Pittsburgh. There, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Movement Science and a Masters in Arts of Teaching.
He is now a Health and Physical Education teacher at Bellwood-Antis, and few people are as entrenched in the culture of B-A, where Lovrich has a hand in sports, student life, and education.
Lovrich has served as the head football coach for eight years and the head boys track coach for twenty-six years. He is also the FCA advisor and a long-time member of the Student Assistance (STAR) team.
“Whenever I was thinking about what I wanted as a career, I wanted to be close to sports. I do that by coaching,” Lovrich said.
With all that he does around the school, his days can be fairly hectic.
For the majority of the year, Lovrich arrives at school around 5:30 a.m. He spends his time before classes at lifting for the football team or doing work in his office.
He will typically have six to eight classes to teach a day.
During the football season, he usually does not leave the school until 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.; during the track season, it’s closer to 6:00 p.m.; and during the offseason, he leaves around 4:30 p.m.
When asked about the time he spends teaching and coaching, Lovrich said, “I enjoy doing this. I want to make an impact on kids’ lives and teaching and coaching allows me to do that.”
During the offseason, Lovrich typically cooks dinner and watches television when he gets home.
He also teaches CCD at St. Joseph’s Church.
In his free time, Lovrich enjoys watching sports and cooking.
