Since graduating from Bellwood Antis in 2023, Dylan Andrews has taken his pole vault career to new heights. Now competing at the collegiate level, he is already showing strong results and continuing the hard work that made him successful in high school.
Andrews now attends Saint Francis University, where he is double majoring in Accounting and Finance.
His hard work has paid off in a big way, as he has already cleared 15’1″ ,which is 7 inches higher than his previous high school PR which was of 14’6″.
In high school, Andrews had a dominant senior season, winning invitationals like the Mountain Lion Invitational. But an ankle injury before Districts limited him and he ultimately finished fifth.
The leaps in performance have Andrews thinking big as he begins his third college season.
“This season, I want to take gold at the NEC outdoor conference championships this spring. Looking beyond that, I want to someday break the Saint Francis school record of 16’2.75”, Andrews said..
According to Andrews, track has a lot to offer beyond winning, losing, and even personal records.
“Pole vaulting is really fun. I love the social aspect of track, and it’s a great way to make friends, and it helps me stay in shape,” Andrews said.
Andrews said Bellwood’s support group was the main factor in making him a college athlete and he had heavy praise for track and field coach Nick Lovrich and pole vaulting coach Jimmy Gerwert.
Andrews said that he wouldn’t be where he is today without a couple of coaches.
“Coach Lovrich has had a tremendous impact on me as a person, and I am lucky to have had him as a football and track coach,” he said. “Without Jimmy Gerwert, I wouldn’t have been nearly as high of a jumper. He put hundreds of hours into coaching me and always made sure that I had everything I needed to succeed. He has incredible knowledge of the sport and makes Bellwood a great place to learn how to pole vault.”
Coach Nick Lovrich speaks very highly of Andrews and had this to say.

“It is great to see Dylan having so much success at the college level. I can still remember when Dylan was in middle school and his dad introducing him to me and talking about how he wanted to compete in track in high school. He has worked very hard to get to this level. I am very proud of him for all he has done this season and can’t wait to see how he progresses the next two years”.
Andrews and the Red Flash will be back in action this week at the Jim Taylor Duals at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove.
We wish Andrews the best of luck in the rest of his collegiate career, and future plans and goals.
