This past weekend closed the doors on the annual school play, Little Shop of Horrors.
Sophomore Vance Finamore was an important role in the play, taking on two personas, a customer and Mr. Bernstein.
The customer was an easy-going man who was always willing to spoil his wife, while Mr. Bernstein was a rich NBC executive looking for fame with the help of Seymour, who was played by Collin Matthews, and Seymour’s plant Audrey II.
Vance is our Artist of the Week.
Being an underclassman can be quite intimidating in an upperclassman-dominated area, but Vance and his talents have shown that he can run with anyone and is not scared of a little competition.
“I plan on staying on stage for the rest of my high school career,” Finamore said. “But I would also like to take it to the next level and continue theater after high school, hopefully getting into Broadway.”
Theater can be demanding on your body, going non-stop from after school until 8-9 P.M. every night. The challenges are always going to be there, but finding the right people makes the journey more memorable than anything else.
“I found that it was a struggle not pronouncing my words enough,” Vance said. “But making friends with Kaylin Irving was definitely the most memorable part of my role.”
Vance isn’t the only one ready to see his career in theater take off. Mr. Logue is extremely pleased with how Finamore is doing and only had good things to say about him.
“Vance is an up-and-coming student with a lot of natural ability and the internal drive to match it,” said Mr. Logue. “In Little Shop of Horrors, he demonstrated control over comical lines, as well as some smooth melodies. I am very happy for him!”
Every play, movie, and song has meaning behind it, whether it is sad, happy, entertaining, or bittersweet. Little Shop of Horrors captures all four of those.
“This play and the roles we have taken over taught us two things. It taught us that greed consumes people,” he said. “But it also taught us that money does not matter when you are with the person you love.”
Theater can be a scary place to go into. Putting yourself out there in front of a huge crowd can be very nerve-wracking and intimidating, but if you have the right mindset, you can set your heart to do anything you want to do.
“I would say to always try your best and have a positive attitude with everything,” Vance said. “Listen to Molly, who is the play director, but most importantly, have fun.”
Congratulations Vance! We are excited to see all that you accomplish in your future endeavors.
