Mariah Younker

 

BluePrint: What college were you accepted into?

Younker: I was accepted into The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

BluePrint: How many colleges did you apply to?

Younker: Originally I applied to three colleges: Penn State University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

BluePrint: What made you apply to this specific college?

Younker: The AIP is a specialized school that offers majors normal colleges, like Penn State and Pitt don’t have. When I went to visit the school, I instantly fell in love with its uniqueness.

BluePrint: What are you planning on majoring in?

Younker: I want to major in entertainment design.

BluePrint: What made you choose this specific major?

Younker: I love doing makeup and expressing my creativity through transformations. This major specializes in making animatronics and prosthetic creatures for movies and entertainment.

BluePrint: What do you think will be some of the major differences between college and high school?

Younker: I feel college is going to be exciting. I’m going to be learning things that interest me while preparing for my dream career. I feel like college will be a lot less stressful than the burdens of high school.

BluePrint: What are your feelings on moving on from Bellwood-Antis High School?

Younker: I’m excited to move on from such a small town, but I’m going to miss my friends. I’m also going to miss rooting for the Blue Devils at all of the sporting events.

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is a private college founded in 1921 and located a few blocks from Point Park University.   Their major areas of study included Media Arts, Design, Fashion, and Culinary.  The AIP prides itself on pushing students out of their comfort zones and opening them up to tough completion and critiques. It challenges its students to use their creativity every day in new and exciting ways.
