STEM Night set for Tuesday evening

STEM Night is a blast for everyone.

Caroline Showalter, Staff Writer

STEM Night is going to be held April 19th and will run from 5:30 P.M.-7:00 P.M.  It will be in the Middle School gym and cafeteria.

STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering Mathematics.

STEM Night has two purposes.

According to Ms. Alice Flarend, a high school science teacher and one of the organizers of the event, “The first is to show connections between what we do in school and the world of work.  The second is to educate our students and parents about STEM jobs.”

Ms. Flaerend said that there are a lot more opportunities to work in STEM than just engineering or basic science.  STEM skills are needed in many jobs.

At STEM Night there will be many things for people to do.  There will have hands-on science activities from PSU, St. Francis and our own Bellwood teachers, including technology displays from Ms. Jamie Forshey’s Tech Club students. PSU-Altoona will basically have a mobile hands-on science museum present.

There will also be representative from area businesses displaying how STEM is used in their business and some more hands-on activities.

Come out for a fun and interesting night!
