Friday the 13th
Last year there were three total Friday the 13ths; the odds of it were strange, but it left room for those who forgot the day to have two more chances to “celebrate” the day. But this year there is only one Friday the 13th, and it falls in May.
On the bright side, you only have one day this year where unlucky things happen and crazy superstitions must be followed.
Common Superstitions on Friday 13th
- If you break a mirror on Friday the 13th, you will have seven years of bad luck.
- If you walk under a ladder, you will have bad luck.
- If a black cat crosses you, you will have bad luck.
- If you cut your hair on Friday the 13th, you will have a death in your family.
- Don’t spill salt. In da Vinci’s Last Supper, it’s the famous depiction where Judas’ spilling of it’s associated with treachery and lies.
The fear of Friday the 13th is called parapskevidekatriaphobia. This phobia apparently is not uncommon, but the real reason for this horror is unknown. Maybe it’s the way that the number 12 has been historically used throughout all religions of life making its older cousin, 13, seem to the disconnected throughout. There were 12 gods of Olympus, 12 Apostles of Jesus, 12 Descendants of Muhammad Imams, there are 12 months of the year, and 12 hours of the clock.
Aside from the crazy superstition that have been circling our lives for decades, even centuries, many people just simply enjoy Friday the 13ths because of the mass production of horror movies that have become legendary hits.
