Glen White advocate, Kevin Stiver, has recently committed to Saint Francis University.
Kevin has not had a normal four years at Bellwood-Antis. His freshmen year he researched the coalmine town of Glen White, Pennsylvania. With all this research he published his first book: Glen White PA, The Town that was Forgotten in the Allegheny Mountains.
His junior year he then published his second book: Overcoming the Alleghenies, another success. His senior year he has been an advocate for this area by starting cleanups and cemetery restoration. Across these four successful years he has given many presentations on his books.
“It is a passion project that allows me to share lesser-known history of our area to others,” stated Kevin.
Without any surprise, Kevin is planning on majoring in history. Kevin stated, “Saint Francis has an internship opportunity where I can work semesters at a time in Washington DC in their museums. Aspects of history on display at Smithsonian Museums really interest me and it would be a fun experience to be there.”
Saint Francis, which is in Loretto, PA, is only about 30 minutes away so Kevin will be commuting. He stated,” I will commute, which means I will drive through Glen White every morning and afternoon to and from school.”
Another reason he chose Saint Francis is because, “They were easy to work with. It will be an exciting experience to get an education from professionals in the field while also staying local and involved in history museums throughout Central Pennsylvania.”
Kevin currently has another book in the making; it is to be published within the next few years.
We wish Kevin the best of luck in his future plans and goals.

Wow! I did not know Kevin was published. I’m sure we’ll see him teaching at a post-secondary institution at some point within the next decade.
