Not all Christmas songs bring joy to the heart.

Lordin Williams, Staff Writer

This week’s Power of Three reveals three Christmas songs that make me want to cry every time I hear them, but not in that happy, sentimental way so often associated with the Holiday Season. This week’s theme is cringe. I hope you won’t get ill from this as I did.

She & Him – “Baby It’s Cold Outside”

She and Him/Yuube

I think as far as “Christmas” songs go, this one is the worst. Whether you listen to the meaning of the song carefully – which suggests some form of drug-induced coercion – or if you listen to just the tune, it’s not good. It also doesn’t help that almost every year, someone ends up making a cover of it. Why you would want to do that, I don’t know.  I think we need to just forget about this aneurism of a song.  I get a headache just thinking about it, and it makes me cold inside … my heart.

Justin Bieber – “Mistletoe”

YouTube/Justin Beiber

I don’t care if you are a Justin Bieber fan. Many of his songs are annoying. I’m not sure if it was his voice or his demeanor, but this song takes the cake. This song just hurts. There are a fair share of Christmas songs that just aren’t good. Justin sings about kissing a girl under the mistletoe, and it hurts. Not sure how old he was when he made this song, but probably young enough where he shouldn’t call someone “shawty.” In fact, no one should, it’s just cringy.

The Jackson 5 – “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”

Jackson 5/YouTube

This song probably isn’t the worst, but I’m not quite sure if I like a child singing a song like this. It makes me cringe more than the previous songs. You think young Justin singing a song about kissing a girl under the mistletoe is bad? Well, a young boy singing about seeing Santa kissing his mom is worse. Thank you Jackson 5 for ruining the holiday for me and probably others.
