The Lady Blue Devils of 1990 made history.

This Thursday our Lady Blue Devil Basketball team is going to the state championship game in Hershey.

However, it’s not the first time that they’ve been to states….

In the 1989-1990 school year, the Lady Blue Devils had the opportunity to play through one of the greatest dream seasons in Bellwood-Antis History. It was the same year that the renovation of the high school made front page news in the Hylite.

The Lady Devils had finished their season with a 24-8 record. On March 31, 1990 they traveled to Hershey to play in the Class A state championship, back when Pennsylvania had only four classifications. That day, their opponent was Pottsville Nativity BVM.

The Lady Devils lost 54-40, but it didn’t change their amazing season.

The team consisted of eleven star players: Rachel Cross, Missy Tyler, Kathy Geis, who was the leading scorer in the championship game with 16 points and 6 rebounds, Shauna Kimberly, Dana Miller, Robin Miller, Jen Hunter, Christi Bush, Tammi Gummo (who now has two daughters playing varsity at Tyrone), Kristen Smith, and Melissa Wagner. There were also three managers: Kara Kimberly, Wendi Bush, and Beth Russin The assistant coaches were Jamie Forshey, who is now the lead woman in B-A’s technology initiatives, and Wayne Wolfe. The head coach was Terri Harpster, who is now the principal at Myers Elementary.
