Day 2 of District 6 Meet Goes Will for Bellwood-Antis Athletes

Baily Swogger, running in her first 100 meters heat from Day 1 of the District 6-AA championships, qualified for the state track and field meet in two events.

Ellen crook was the lone champion from Bellwood-Antis on the second day of the District 6-AA track and field meet at Mansion Park in Altoona on Wednesday.

Ellen placed first in the 800 meter run with the time of 2:21.41 before placing fifth in the 3200 meter run with the time of 11:55.86.

Her performance in the 800 earned her another ticket to the PIAA Championships in Shippensburg next week. She qualified for states with the 1600 meter run the day earlier.

Along with Ellen several other Lady Blue Devils earned places. Salena Damiano placed seventh in shot put with a throw of 34-4 ¾, while the Lady Eagles 4×100 relay team took seventh.

Bailey Swogger qualified for states in her second event, placing third in the 200 meter run.

“I’m happy to go to states. I’ve heard it’s a great memory,” Bailey said.   “I’m happy with my 100 time, but I could’ve done better in the 200.”

As for the Blue Devil track team on Day 2, Alex Bartlett placed fifth in the 3200 meter run with the time of 10:15.50.

The 4×400 relay team for the boys placed fourth and  the 4×100 meter relay and seventh.

The athletes performances yesterday built on a strong showing on Tuesday, before violent rains forced the postponement of the meet.

In all, BA has seven athletes advancing to states and three District 6 champions.

Athletes advancing to the PIAA track and field championships include:

  • Ellen Crook in the 1600 and 800 meter runs
  • Bailey Swogger in the 100 and 200 meter dashes
  • The boys 4×800 meter relay team of Aaron Mogle, Kyler Lardieri, Noah D’Angelo, and Alex Bartlett
  • Matt McMillan in the 300 meter hurdles
  • Nick Torsell in the javelin

Congratulations to both the girl’s and boy’s track teams!

Both girls and boys track and field teams finished fourth in the race for the team championship.  Richland won the team championship for both boys and girls.
