Lady Blue Devil freshman Maddie Miller tossed a four-hitter in her first playoff start against Ligonier Valley.

It’s officially in the books. The Blue Devils crushed the Ligonier Valley Rams 10-0 yesterday at home in the first round of the District 6-AA playoffs.

Freshman Maddie Miller pitched a very efficient game, allowing only four hits and striking-out two.

“I was really nervous, but I threw strikes, and let my defense do the work,” said Miller.

Sophomore Taylor Shildt also had a very good game, going 2-for-3 and scoring two runs. She was one of six Lady Blue Devils with two hits, including Emily Nagle and Jaqueline Finn, who each hit doubles.

Shildt said, “Our offense was solid, I think, because we were amped up and excited for playoffs. That’s how it should be for every game.”

Coach Jim Payne was happy to get the playoffs started, but he knows it’s a long road.

“It’s a great start to a long tournament! We have to keep working and play the team in front of us. Hard work will have its rewards,” said Coach Payne.
