After a turnaround season, the Bellwood-Antis Lady Blue Devils softball program finished the regular season 16-4 after going 10-10 in 2024 and 3-15 in 2023.
That record secured the No. 2 seed in the district 6 2A playoffs.
The Blue Devils will face off against the No. 3 Southern Huntingdon Rockets (15-4) on Wednesday at 2:00pm at George O. Martin Memorial Field in North Side.
Both teams have allowed very few runs on average (Bellwood 1.4 and Southern Huntingdon averaging 3.7), so any runs scored will be very well earned.
Coming into the game sophomore Hayden Taylor leads the Lady Devils in batting average with a very solid .442 followed by senior London McKee with a .431. Parker Martin is batting .417.
As a team, the Lady Devils have hit exceptionally well. Of nine players with 40 or more plate appearances, all nine are hitting above .300.
On the defensive side, the pitching has been unstoppable for B-A.
Leading the team in strikeouts in freshman Lainey Stinson, who will get the start against the Lady Rockets. In 44 innings pitched, she has struck out 98 batters and has a very impressive 0.64 ERA, and a record of 6-1.
Another key arm for the Devils is junior Palynn Gregg, who has struck out 83 batters in 63 innings. Gregg has a 1.00 ERA with a record of 8-1.
The Lady Devils will need to have solid pitching and defense against the Lady Rockets, who have limited 9 teams to 1 run or less.
If the girls can squeeze out a win, they will match up against the winner of No. 1 West Shamokin and No. 4 West Branch on May 26 for the District 6 championship.
