In baseball, a team is always one good outing from a starting pitcher away from building momentum.
But offense generates momentum, too, and on Friday the Blue Devils baseball team had plenty of it in a 12-2 win over Moshannon Valley at home in the first round of the District 6 2A playoffs.
B-A had a total of 15 hits against the Knights, the every player in the lineup managing at least one, in a victory that propelled the Devils into the semifinals. They will face No. 1 Bishop McCort at Point Stadium in Johnstown on Thursday.
Six players managed two hits apiece for B-A, and the lineup from 1 through 4 all went 2-for-4 in the team’s best overall hitting performance of the season.
Despite the lopsided score, the Blue Devils actually trailed 2-1 in the third after an error opened the door for a couple of runs from the Knights.
However, B-A’s bats came alive as the team progressed through the lineup for the second time. The Devils scored 10 runs over the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take commanding lead and then closed the books on a 10-run rule victory with a single marker in the sixth.
Bradyn Partner, Jackson Dorminy. Cam Swogger, Brady McConnell, Maddox McCall, Landon Sneath, and Chase Plummer all produced two hits for the Devils. Plummer homered and Sneath had a double, and both drove in a pair of runs each.
Eli Moser got the win for B-A, allowing 2 hits over 3 innings while walking 4 and striking out 2. Killian Worthing came on in relief in the fourth to fan four and allow 2 hits.
