Despite suffering a bad ankle sprain in the third inning, senior Tanner Snyder stayed in yesterday’s game against Richland and went 3-for-4.

Yesterday the Bellwood-Antis boys Baseball team pulled out a 7-3 victory in what started out as a tough game and ended in a dominating triumph over the Richland Rams in the second round of the District 6-AA playoffs.

The seniors led the team along with junior ace Chad Lunesmann, who allowed five hits and only one earned run in a complete-game win.

Now 19-3, B-A will now face Bald Eagle Area in the semifinals for a right to play in the District 6-AA championship game.  A win on Thursday against BEA would also give the Blue Devils an automatic bid into the PIAA tournament.

In the fifth inning the Devils tied the game 3-3 on run-scoring hits by Trenton Creppage and Randy Zitterbart.

B-A pulled ahead in the sixth inning with a two-run single by Casey Gray.  Creppage added another RBI and the Blue Devils eventually went up 7-3.

Many efforts helped the team pull ahead.  Senior Tanner Snyder, who suffered an ankle injury earlier, stayed in the game and got two more hits to keep the ball rolling.  He finished 3-for-4.

“I wouldn’t want to go out my senior year losing a game that I barely played in,” said Tanner

Tanner wasn’t the only person to contribute to the win yesterday.  There were several big hits and outs that secured the win.  Creppage put a ball over the head of a Richland outfielder to knock in some runs and to break the tie going into the fourth inning.

This victory meant a lot to the team, “This win was huge,” said Snyder. “Its big to get the bus rolling and to get to where we want to go.”

Luensmann thought it was important for the team’s confidence to win a big game.  The team ended its regular season by losing 3 of 4.

“It’s really important.  It gets us on a roll after a couple of tough losses,” Luensmann said.  “Everyone battled after we got down early, and no one quit.”
