A loss in the District Semi-finals, a win in the consolation game, and an eventual run to win a state title.  That was the story of Bellwood’s begin to reign in PIAA 2A, 2 years ago when the Lady Blue Devils won their first state title in school history.

Two years later, and after back-to-back state tiles, B-A finds itself in the exact same position after a win in the PIAA District 6 2A consolation game against Bishop McCort last night at the Altoona Field House.

B-A now has its seeding for a march into the PIAA playoffs, and is looking to make an improbable run to its third straight state title.

Senior Alli Campbell was coming off of a 40 point game in a semi-final loss, and she played at a high level again last night with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sakeria Haralson had 12 points also adding 13 rebounds, while Emilie Leidig hit on six 3-pointers for 18 points.

Bellwood came out hot, starting the game with a 25-11 lead after the first quarter.  Despite the start, McCourt responded and went on a huge run in the second quarter, and headed into the half up 34-32.

Fast break points, and timely threes allowed B-A to take the win by a score of 62-59.

After winning the consolation game, Bellwood will finish as the third-place team out of district 6 and will face Laurel, the WPIAL 2nd place team, in the first round of the PIAA 2A playoffs next Friday.
