The Blue Devils 4X400 meter relay team of Sean Mallon, Cooper Keen, Hunter Shawley, and Kenny Robison celebrate their victory at the West Central Coaches Meet.

The Blue Devil track and field team was well represented at the 71st annual West Central Coaches meet in Windber, PA. The Devils had a ton of people place in a variety of different events while winning the team championship.

Thirteen teams were competing.

Senior Joe Wertz had a great day for BA, racking up first place finishes in the discus, javelin, and shot put.

Ava Kensinger added another first place finish for Bellwood in the girls 300 hurdles with a time of 54.07 and Lexi Lovrich finished first in the girls 1600 with a time of 5:43.

Sean Mallon, Kenny Robison, Hunter Shawley, and Sophia Nelson all placed 2nd in their events.

BA coach Nick Lovrich was very happy with how the team placed. “I was very proud of our guys for the way they performed with how cold and rainy it was,” Lovrich explained. “Normally this time of year the weather is pretty good and you see times and distances improve. Friday was about getting through the meet healthy and outperforming the other teams.”

Coach Lovrich was also very impressed with how senior Joe Wertz preformed. “Joe had a really good day,” Lovrich noted. “To take first in all 3 throwing events is very impressive.”

Next up for BA is the ICC meet, however the meet had to be rescheduled due to COVID.

Good luck to the track and field team!
