Chalked Up
With chalk on my hands, I slap my legs then step onto the platform. I get down, grip the bar, and pull: this is how I prepare for each lift at practice and meets. Every weightlifter works hard to improve before their next meet, some work hard to get to nationals, and then few work for long term goals such as the Pan American Team, lifting in a USA Weightlifting singlet, and even the olympics. Personally, I want to beat my total from last years nationals then work on improving my total to make the Pan American Team.
I lift at Dormans Sports Performance in Altoona accompanied by my coach Fred Dorman. I lift five days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday) with my rest day being Thursday and our team max out Saturday.
Currently my coach and I are coming up with a plan on how to improve my total (highest snatch added to highest clean and jerk) while also preparing me for nationals and any meets to come.
In two weeks I’ll be competing in a small meet in Maryland. At this meet I’m focusing on putting my technique work to use and trying to go six for six (hit all six lift attempts). It’s all part of a bigger goal. Follow my weightlifting journey by reading these weekly blogs!
