Madison Brinkman has been paying the trumpet for more than 8 years, and she has left her mark on the B-A music program as a decorated instrumentalist.

Madison qualified for PMEA District and Regional band both times she auditioned in 2022 and 2023, and she earned 1st chair in her section for 2023.

Band can be difficult, she admits, but, “If you play a piece enough, it gets easier.”

Madison says her favorite band memory includes successfully playing a solo for Seven Nation Army on the first attempt. Best of all, a graduate she admires was there to witness the spectacle.

Madison enjoys music so much she intends to incorporate it into the next step of her education. She will be attending Indiana University of PA next fall for to become an English teacher, but plans on continuing to play.

“I plan to join concert and marching bands in college that don’t require me to be a music major,” she said.

It makes sense because music has become a fundamental part of her life, Madison said.

“Music is how I can express myself, and the atmosphere of anything musical.”

Band director Patrick Sachse was effusive in his praise of Madison when considering the trajectory of her band career.

“Throughout our nine years working together, she has consistently been one of my top musicians, leaders, and role models in the program,” he said. “She has been a pleasure to work with, and she is on track to become an excellent educator someday!”

Maddison also loves to read, write, listen to music, and play instruments with her sister at home.
