Senior, Gabe Thompson has been one of the top track stars for Bellwood this season, and is this week’s Blueprint Athlete of the Week.

This season Gabe has been the second highest scorer on the team, with 239 points. He runs in the 100m and 200m dashes, and is on the 400 and 1600 relay teams.

Gabe’s best times in his events are 11.47 in the 100m and 23.54 in the 200m. Even with the success Gabe has been having, he still strives for more.

“It’s important to stay hungry,” he said. “I can’t get too comfortable or satisfied until the job is done. It’s that mindset that pushes me to improve further.”

Gabe has set a few goals for himself this season. A list of his goals include medaling at districts, playing at states, and leaving a lasting impact on the team.

Track coach Mr. Lovrich said Gabe has shined this season, and he’s looking for big things from him in the postseason.

“Gabe has had a really good year. Been a great leader for our younger people,” he said. “His attitude is always positive, and he’s a great team player. Hopefully has a big day at Districts to cap his career and get a shot to run at states.”

Gabe started preparing for the season back in December. He said he did weight lifting and personal track workouts throughout the winter, until the official team pre-season workouts started. This put Gabe a step ahead and ready for the season.

In track, it can be hard to stay motivated throughout the long season, but for Gabe it is no problem staying motivated.

He says, “I know I’d be nothing without my discipline. If I slack off when I feel like it, that just makes me one day or one run behind others.”

Congratulations Gabe on being Athlete of the Week, and good luck with the rest of your season!
