On Monday, during fourth period the Bellwood-Antis law class met with drone expert John Thomas to get a better idea of how law enforcement works.
Thomas is a resident of Bellwood and a Pennsylvania state police officer.
The drone unit he supervises has operations based out of Martinsburg.
Mr. McNaul and Mr. Elder, who each teach a section of law, took their students to the presentation.
According to Mr. McNaul, Thomas’s job consists of being called out for situations that might require more remote assistance, like hostage situations where the drone would blast windows to send in other drones and ensure it’s safe for troopers to enter.
Mr. McNaul said Thomas is in charge of state police drone operations for all of Western part of Pennsylvania.
“This is something cool to do for the last days of school, and they get to learn how the drones work,” Mr. McNaul said.
As a highlight, Thomas at one point sent one of the drones 400 feet above hillside church, and the drone zoomed in on students in B-A’s courtyard clearly, which was projected on Thomas’s viewing equipment.
